Wear it sexy, tomboy or luxe – a dirndl from London label Dirndlqueen is S/S13's quirky classic with a twist.

---

Dirndlqueen is pleased to announce the launch of her first collection of contemporary British dirndl dresses - ‘Buttons’ - available online at www.thedirndlqueen.com and in Hub, 49 Stoke Newington Church Street, London N16 0AP.

Dirndlqueen offers a contemporary twist on the time honoured dirndl dress. These British-made dirndls are re-made classics using original English fabrics in bicolour contrast prints: the dirndl is getting a fresh new London look.

Each dirndl in the DQ Spring/Summer 2013 ‘Buttons’ series is made from traditional Liberty fabrics and has five traditional silver buttons, inspired by a set of King George II sterling silver buttons made in 1740 by the famed Sandylands Drinkwater of London.

All our Dirndlqueen dresses are made to order by a family-run tailors business who have been making traditional English garments in London's East End for over one hundred years.

To this day the personal attention given to each garment is truly amazing and very personal: each of our dresses is made by one and one tailor only, who does everything from start to finish, ensuring perfect quality and a truly handmade fit and feel. Dirndlqueen customers will find the name of their tailor sewn into their Dirndlqueen dress.

At Dirndlqueen all our dresses are lovingly made to order by a dedicated tailor. DQ customers get to chose their very own fabric combination for their dress and apron from our handpicked selection, making a Dirndlqueen dress truly unique and special to the individual buyer.

DQ’s handpicked Spring/Summer 2013 fabric collection is here. For our first collection we decided to go with the mother of all great English traditional fabric design: Liberty; but each season will have a new spin on English fabric and pattern design.

About the dirndl
Dirndlqueen is a dedication to the classic dirndl, a dress with a legacy going back 150 years.

Dirndl, a term for young girl, and the name given to the dress, originated as a simple servants or maids dress and was made of plain colours or simple check, denoting regional background and social status. To this day, how you tie the bow on your apron indicates if you are taken or free and single.

Dirndlqueen takes the essence of the original dirndl, but gives it a radical new London look. Our modern dirndl dresses, whether worn with a simple court shoe, a towering high heel or dressed down with a pair of ankle boots, are both flattering and lady-like.

Each Dirndlqueen dress is lovingly made to order by a dedicated tailor and we handpick your fabrics, buttons and zips to ensure a perfect, tailored fit.

Dirndlqueen dresses are made of bi-colour contrast prints and, depending on the wearer’s mood, can be worn with the contrast apron, or just with the simple dress tie, allowing for two very different, beautiful styles.
